I’ve worked with Sky Marble and Granite for several years to replace builder grade countertops with custom countertops in kitchens, basements and bathrooms for both my own homes and client properties. They have a showroom in Sterling, Virginia, and are open 6 days per week.

Why I like this company: I considered building a regular fence on my property but knew it would take a bit of time to get HOA approval – and I also didn’t really want to ruin the aesthetic of my property with a wooden fence.

Why I like this company – I’ve been referring Buddy to clients, neighbors and friends for a few years. Buddy’s father owned a flooring business, so it was part of his lingo, growing up. Buddy is a Loudoun County native and has toured a variety of residential and commercial developments during his flooring career.
He works with a lot of real estate agents, who are tasked with helping sellers update floors before putting homes on the market. He visits clients in person, is always extremely respectful, and really tries to listen to his customers’ needs before making recommendations on products they should select.
I’ve personally had Buddy install hardwoods in my own home, stair runners, and carpeting in my bedrooms and basement. He’s also consulted with family members after they’ve encountered water damage, to help them understand how to best work with home insurance claims.

Why I like this company – I started working with Five Star within the first year or two of my tenure as a realtor. I had hired painters for my own homes previously, but my sense of urgency was never as high as my real estate clients. I needed a painting company who could deliver results quickly, efficiently, and with a high degree of professionalism.
Five Star sends an estimator to each job to meet with prospective clients in person and understand what needs to be done. They take measurements of rooms/items that need to be painted, and if desired, will assign a paint consultant to come back to the client to evaluate paint choices appropriate for the client’s desired aesthetic.

Why I like this company – I am a dog owner and have gone through several small businesses to help take care of my dogs while on travel. VIP Boarding in Lovettsville, VA, initially started out as an egg farm, then a poultry farm, and about 20 years ago, it was modified into a boarding and playground facility for dogs and cats.

Why I like this company – If you’re not from the Loudoun County area, you may not realize that radon is a gas that naturally occurs in the atmosphere, but when there is too much, it can lead to lung cancer – and unfortunately – many of the basements in this area require an active radon remediation system in order to ensure the buildup of radon in the basement does not go above an acceptable level as prescribed by the EPA.
Boulder Edge has been working in Northern Virginia for over 30 years. They are knowledgeable and efficient. Why I like this company: I met Leigh several years ago, while I was getting my Brokerage license at the Dulles Area Association of Realtors. By that point, I had worked with a few different stagers to help my listing clients get their homes ready to sell. Leigh came across as confident, yet very understated, with statistics to back why she makes the recommendations she does to help home owners improve the marketability of their homes.

Why I like this company – the owner of my brokerage, Janeen Marconi, is married to Josh McKim. So, he is acutely aware of the need for timely service needed by real estate clients with septic systems.

Why I like working with this company – The residential sales contract in Northern Virginia provides that a WDI (wood destroying insects) inspection be part of each sale. My go-to vendor for this inspection has been Country Termite & Pest since I got my real estate license. They do a great job, have lockbox access, are good communicators, and can address odd issues as they arise (like birds in attics or mold found in a basement). Whether you are a DIY homeowner or plan to hire a professional to retile a backsplash or bathroom shower, getting beautiful tile and grout can make all the difference in your finished project. A few years ago, I wanted to update my own kitchen backsplash (which had been a Home Depot product) and a friend of mine recommended Conestoga Tile, based in Sterling, VA, for their selection of materials and knowledgeable customer service representatives.

Why I like this company – I started working exclusively with Karen Daily at EKKO Title in 2021, during the COVID pandemic. In Virginia, buyers may select their title companies, but I had noticed on a few of my transactions in which I represented SELLERS, that several title companies were disorganized, terrible at communicating, and/or not committed to keeping personal and financial data of their customers CONFIDENTIAL.
As a former CPA, keeping personal and financial data secure has been one of my TOP priorities in real estate, as I know that there are several bad actors who try to steal earnest money deposits (EMD’s) or redirect wire transfers. Karen will hop on phone calls with my clients to help them set up LLCs (common practice for real estate investors) and she will go to clients' homes to handle settlements in person at the kitchen table (which is greatly appreciated by some of my older clients).
